Nandita Das has acted in over 30 feature films in 10 Indian languages, and three professional plays. She has a Masters in Social Work from Delhi University and continues to advocate issues of social justice and human rights.
Firaaq, her directorial debut, met with widespread critical and audience acclaim, travelling to over 50 film festivals around the world. She has been on the jury of Cannes Film Festival twice (2005 and 2013), among others. In acknowledgement of her contribution to the Arts, she was made a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres) by the French government in 2011, the same year in which she became the first Indian to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Women's Forum, in Washington DC. Up until recently, she served as chairperson of the Children's Film Society, India.
She returns to the stage after eight years with 'Between the Lines'.
